Gophers Go 2-0 on Opening Weekend, Sweep Green Bay 7-0

MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota finished opening weekend undefeated, beating Green Bay 7-0. Every singles match was completed in straight sets, with Jackson Allen winning 6-0, 6-0 and Marino Alpeza winning 6-0, 6-1.
"I was really looking forward to the start of the season and watching the guys play," head coach Geoff Young said. "It was really fun to see them compete in a live dual match instead of practices. We get back to work this week and we have a tough match with Oregon on Saturday."
DOUBLES
Minnesota took Green Bay down quickly in doubles. the pairing of Allen and Justyn Levin defeated James Ling and Miles McDowall 6-1 in No. 1 doubles while Stefan Milicevic and Alpeza won 6-2 in No. 3 doubles. Sebastian Vile and Josip Krstanovic won 6-3 in No. 2 doubles after clinching the doubles point.
SINGLES
Allen and Alpeza led the way in singles, with Allen winning 6-0, 6-0 over Tony Leto in No. 4 singles and Alpeza winning 6-0, 6-1 over Dipin Widha in No. 3 singles. Krstanovic clinched for Minnesota with his 6-2, 6-2 win in No. 1 singles. Krstanovic is now 2-0 in the No. 1 spot for his career. Vlad Lobak, Milicevic, and Alpeza all won in straight sets to round out the 7-0 sweep for Minnesota.
"It was a great day for the Gophs," Lobak said. "We won both matches 7-0 and it's really been a great day for us. I know the guys did the best they could, and I hope we can do the same for the rest of the season."
