MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota Men's Tennis program will hit the road this weekend for two non-conference duals in sunny Alabama. This is continuing the road trip from last weekend, where Minnesota finished 1-1 with a loss to Oregon and a tight 4-3 win over UCF in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
Vad Lobak clinched for Minnesota against UCF with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 win in No. 5 singles.
The Gophers also earned three ranked wins in singles from Josip Krstanovic, Stefan Milicevic and Jackson Allen to aid in the victory over UCF.
Minnesota (3-1) will need more of that magic against No. 21 Alabama (6-0) on Friday at 6 pm, who features two ranked singles players at the top of their lineup: No. 24 Mazen Osama and No. 41 Patrick Kaukovalta. Alabama has also seen success against Big Ten opponents already this season, with a 4-3 win against No. 23 Michigan and a 5-2 win over Northwestern.
Minnesota will hope to use experience to topple the Tide on Friday, with seniors Krstanovic, Justyn Levin, and Marino Alpeza likely to compete in singles, doubles, or both. Sophomores Lobak and Allen will look to continue their strong play from last week as well.
On Sunday, Minnesota will face Auburn at Noon. Auburn (7-2) is coming off back-to-back losses to Harvard and Northwestern after previously going undefeated on the season.
Auburn's lineup features Matteo DiVincentes at No. 1 singles and No. 77 Brandon Laubser. Laubser has 55 career singles wins for the Tigers, and the senior brings needed experience to their lineup.
