The University of Minnesota Men's Tennis Team finished off Wichita State 7-0 Friday to advance to 8-1 on the season. The Gophers remain undefeated at home with a perfect 6-0 record.
"Good win tonight against a very good Wichita State team. 7-0 against a really good team is a great score," head coach Geoff Young said. "Doubles was not bad, but there's still room for improvement. DOUBLES
Minnesota started the match strong with a quick round of doubles. The No. 1 doubles pairing of Josip Krstanovic and Justyn Levin had a quick 6-2 win against Wichita State's Haru Inoue and Murkel Dellien to start the night strong. Sebastian Vile and Vlad Lobak took down Stefan Latinovic and Andre Caligiana 6-4 to seal the team doubles point. Eli Ogilvy and Jackson Allen were down 3-4 against Eddie Stoica and Marius Frosa upon clinching the doubles point.
SINGLES
Vlad Lobak took the quick 6-0, 6-2 win against Andre Caligiana in No. 6 singles. Shortly after, Marino Alpeza went 6-4, 6-1 to take down his opponent Stefan Latinovic in the No. 4 spot. In No. 5 singles, Eli Ogilvy continued the Gophers win streak by defeating Eddie Stocia 6-2, 7-6 (2). Josip Krstanovic came back from a 3-6 first set to end Murkel Dellien 6-2, 6-1 in the final 2 sets in No. 1 singles. Shortly after Jackson Allen finished a hard fought match to finish Marius Frosa 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 in No. 3 singles.Stefan Milicevic came back from behind during his first set in the No. 2 spot and won his tiebreak against Haru Inoue 7-6 (7). Stefan soared through the second set with a 6-1 win.
UP NEXT
Minnesota will be back home on Sunday to face-off against Western Michigan.
UP NEXTMinnesota looks to extend the win streak and stay undefeated at home. Looking ahead, Western Michigan is 4-5 on the season and took a 1-6 loss to Minnesota's Big Ten competition Iowa in January. Iowa has been Western Michigan's only Ben Ten opponent thus far.
