Gophers Sweep Auburn to Complete 2-0 SEC Road Trip

AUBURN, ALA. - Minnesota backed up their win over No. 19 Alabama on Friday with a commanding 7-0 sweep of Auburn Sunday. Josip Krstanovic earned the clinch in back-to-back contests with his 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 win over Filippo Mora in No. 1 singles. Stefan Milicevic also earned a ranked win over No. 77 Brandon Laubser in No. 2 singles.
"I thought we came out a little careful, which isn't how we play," head coach Geoff Young said. "Auburn competed well and are well-coached, which shows as they battled tooth-and-nail until the end. We have some big matches coming up for us with Dartmouth and Marquette coming to Minneapolis, but it was overall a good weekend for us."
DOUBLES
Eli Ogilvy and Jackson Allen gave Minnesota a hot start in doubles with a clean 6-2 win in No. 2 doubles, while Laubser and Tad McLean were no match for Krstanovic and partner Justyn Levin in No. 1 doubles. Krstanovic and Levin won 6-3, earning the doubles point for Minnesota. Milicevic and partner Marino Alpeza were up 5-2 upon clinch of the doubles point.
SINGLES
Marino Alpeza cleaned up in No. 4 singles with a breezy 6-2, 6-2 win over Tim Dollman, while Ogilvy kept the match rolling with his 6-4, 6-3 win over Michael Durham in the No. 5 spot. Krstanoivc then clinched for the Gophers with his win in No. 1 singles, taking down Filippa Mora in a gritty 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 win.
Sebastian Vile and Jackson Allen grinded to wins in the No. 6 and No. 3 spot, respectively. After falling 3-6 in the first set, Vile trailed early in set two before clawing back to take the set 7-6 (7-4), before dominating 6-1 in the third set. Allen and opponent Tad McLean went toe-to-toe in the third and final set, with Allen ultimately winning with a score of 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (10-8). Milicevic earned the final win for the Gophers with his 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 1-0 (7) win over No. 77 Brandon Laubser in No. 2 singles.

THE SPIN
Minnesota walked away from their SEC road trip with two wins against quality, high-major opponents. Krstanovic proved himself in two clutch moments with back-to-back clinchers in No. 1 singles after playing primarily in the bottom of the lineup last season, while Milicevic bounced back with a ranked win after a close, three-set loss against Alabama. Gritty performances at the bottom of the lineup also showcased the flexibility and depth of the team early in the season. These matches, paired with the ITA Kick-Off Weekend last week, will prove to be key tune-ups before conference play later in the season.

Minnesota returns to Baseline Tennis Center next weekend to face Dartmouth Friday at 6 pm and Marquette Saturday, also at 6 pm.
