McKeag Makes Four All-Americans for ‘U’ at NCAAs

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Kieran McKeag earned Second Team All-America honors for the first time in his first trip to the 2019 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track & Field Championships on Saturday at the Birmingham Crossplex.
A native of Lakeville, Minn., and an Apple Valley High School alum, McKeag finished 12th in the men's weight throw on Saturday, clearing 20.73 meters (68-00.25 ft.) on his second attempt of the day. The redshirt sophomore closes out the indoor campaign having recorded the second longest throw in University of Minnesota history at 21.97 meters (72-01.00 ft.) at the Snowshoe Open on Feb. 15 – one of three weight throw titles this season for McKeag.
The Maroon & Gold head into the outdoor season having picked up four Second Team All-America accolades at the indoor national championships. McKeag was joined by Kiley Sabin (14th in the women's shot put), Jonathan Tharaldsen (14th in the men's shot put) and Obsa Ali (15th in the men's 5,000 meters).
The University of Minnesota track & field program opens the outdoor season next weekend, March 15-16, at the University of Miami Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla.
