The Gophers won eight titles on day two of the Hurricane Invite on Saturday.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Minnesota track & field program closed out the opening weekend of the outdoor campaign with a total of 10 event titles at the Hurricane Invitational including eight wins on Saturday at Cobb Stadium.

The Minnesota men added a trio of titles on the final day of competition at the Hurricane Invitational – picking two victories on the track and one in a field event while the Gopher women won four field events and one title on the track on Saturday.

Elliott Davis added Minnesota's third victory of the weekend to start the afternoon, pacing the men's 400-meter field with a time of 47.29 seconds. Ben Psicihulis added a third-place finish for the Gophers at 47.61.

Lucas Trapp kept the wins coming for the Maroon & Gold with his victory in the men's 800 meters. Minnesota had two of the top three finishers in the event with Trapp clocking a 1:51.89 while Matt Rosen came in third at 1:53.50.

Sammie Houston earned the Gophers' final men's victory of the weekend by pacing the men's triple jump at 15.12 meters (49-07.25 ft.).

Meanwhile, Mason Roomes finished third in the men's long jump at 7.14 meters (23-05.25 ft.), Jonathan Webb finished eighth in the 200 meters at 21.67 seconds, and the men's 4x400-meter relay closed out the weekend with a seventh-place finish at 3:20.44. Four Gophers finished in the top eight of the men's 400-meter hurdles – Matthew Baker in fourth at 53.32, Clayton Johnson in fifth at 53.67, Grant Fuller in seventh at 54.11 and Collin Sieffert in eighth at 54.22.

Minnesota opened the Hurricane Invitational with a pair of wins on Friday as Mike Herauf claimed the men's pole vault crown at 4.95 meters (16-02.75 ft.) while Jon Nerdal won the men's hammer throw at 63.38 meters (207-11 ft.).

The Gopher women were led by event champions Temi Ogunrinde (hammer), Tess Keyzers (shot put), Ryan Crotty (javelin), Hannah Morris (long jump), and Rachel Schow (400m hurdles).

Ogunrinde won hammer throw with a season-opening mark of 61.46 meters (201-08) while Kaitlyn Long finished as runner-up (56.52m, 185-05) in her Gophers debut this season after competing unattached during the 2019 indoor campaign.
