‘U’ Claims Nine Titles at Minnesota Men’s Twilight

The University of Minnesota track & field program collected a total of nine event titles at the Minnesota Men's Twilight Meet.

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota track & field program collected a total of nine event titles on Wednesday afternoon at the Minnesota Men's Twilight – the first men's competition at the new University of Minnesota Track and Field Stadium. Meanwhile, members of the women's team were in action at the Tommie Twilight where the Gophers claimed 10 titles, including five by unattached athletes.

Among the wins for the Gopher men were a trio of personal records, including two on the track as Nick Rink won the 3,000 meter steeplechase at 8:55.69 while Hunter Lucas claimed the 1,500 meter title at 3:51.48 ahead of Connor Olson in third at 3:53.38 and Seth Eliason in fourth at 3:56.13. Mike Herauf added a personal record of 5.05 meters (16-06.75 ft.) to win the pole vault while John Uchytil came in second at 4.70 meters (15-05.00 ft.). 

Minnesota also picked up the top two finishers in the discus and the hammer throw. Kaleb Siekmeier captured the discus title at 52.68 meters (172-10 ft.) while Kieran McKeag came in second at 46.98 meters (154-02 ft.). McKeag opened the day with a win in the hammer throw at 65.79 meters (215-10 ft.) while Jon Nerdal was second at 64.87 meters (212-10 ft.). Connor Rousemiller finished fourth at 60.36 meters (198-00 ft.) while Siekmeier was the sixth-place finisher at 54.35 meters (178-04 ft.).

Clayton Johnson won the 400-meter hurdles at 52.65 with Matthew Baker finishing third at 53.67 while Eric Walker won the 100-meter hurdles at 14.54. 

Additionally, Jackson Wellenstein claimed a pair of event titles while competing unattached on Wednesday. Wellenstein paced the 200 meters at 21.91 and the 400 meters at 47.83. 

Meanwhile, Chris Trotter added a runner-up finish in the 800 meters at 1:54.17 while James Travis finished second in the triple jump at 14.13 meters (46-04.25 ft.) and Eric Rousemiller was second in the shot put at 16.16 meters (53-00.25 ft.). Ben Gucinski finished third in the high jump at 1.88 meters (6-02.00 ft.). 

Women Win 10 Titles at Tommie Twilight 

Ashley Ramacher, Karlie Place, Ally Smith, and Abby Kargol won individual titles to lead the Maroon & Gold at the Tommie Twilight. 

Leading the way in the field events, Ramacher won high jump with a season-best mark of 1.76 meters (5-09.25 ft.) while Place won pole vault with a mark of 3.86 meters (12-08.00 ft.).

The Gophers claimed three titles on the track led by Smith and Kargol, who both posted career-best times to win their respective events. Smith won the 1,500-meter run in a career-best time of 4:40.74 while Kargol ran 17:19.92 for a new PR and the event title in the 5,000-meter run. Minnesota's 4x400-meter relay team of Kayla Baker, Jenna Conzemius, Molly Roach, and Kelsey Sather won in 4:04.16 as well.

Gophers competing unattached picked up another five titles at the Tommie Twilight led by Nayoka Clunis winning both the discus and the hammer throw. Libby Halbmaier (800-meter run, career-best 2:10.32), Natalie Windels (400-meter hurdles), and Tasha Schaffer (triple jump) also won their respective events.
