Minnesota will square off against Michigan in the second round
LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Minnesota men's tennis team will see their first action of the Big Ten tournament on Friday afternoon, taking on the No. 23 Michigan Wolverines at 2:00PM CT in the second round of the tournament.
The Gophers faced off against the Wolverines earlier in the season in a road tilt, where Michigan got the better of Minnesota with a 6-1 victory. The winner of Friday's contest will move onto the conference semifinals, where they will take on the winner of the 3-seed vs. 6/11-seed matchup.
In a loaded Big Ten Conference, the Gophers earned a respectable 9-6 record on the season, including a 6-2 home record and one ranked win over Northwestern earlier in the year.
In singles play, the Maroon and Gold were led by recent All-B1G first team selection Jackson Allen, who went 8-6 at the No. 1 singles slot and secured two wins over ranked opponents this season.
In doubles, it was the duo of Siim Troost and Vlad Lobak that shined with a 10-2 doubles record and three ranked wins, including a previous win against Michigan's premier pairing of Andrew Fenty and Mattias Siimar.
The team's combined efforts earned them the conference's fifth seed, a first-round bye, and a date with the Wolverines as the "U" looks to avenge the loss from earlier in the year.
