Last Time Out: Windy City Invite
The University of Minnesota track and field program claimed three victories at the 2023 Windy City Invitational last weekend highlighted by a Big Ten record in the 60m by graduate student Amira Young.

Young's performance on the straightaway came on Friday night when the Chicago, Ill., native dropped a 7.19 in the 60m final to win the competition. The time for Young dropped her lifetime best from 7.24 to 7.19 and goes down as the No. 1 time in Big Ten history and breaks a 21-year school record previously held by Tahesia Harrigan. In that same 60m final Akilah Lewis clocked her own lifetime best in the event at 7.21, which is now tied for No. 2 in Big Ten history. Lewis' time is tied for No. 15 in the NCAA this season and makes her the second fastest Gopher in program history.

Another NCAA top 20 mark came in the final event raced by the Maroon and Gold in Chicago. The women's 4x400m relay team clocked a season-best 3:35.66 to finish as the runner-up in the event to Stanford. The team of Jayla CampbellDyandra GrayJanielle Josephs and Abigail Schaaffe bested their previous time to sit in the No. 19 slot in the NCAA and the No. 3 slot in program history.

Amira Young Claims Back-to-Back Big Ten Weekly Honors
University of Minnesota track and field graduate student Amira Young was honored by the Big Ten as the Track Athlete of the Week for the third time this season, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Last weekend Young won the Windy City Invite 60m and 200m. Her 7.19 winning 60m time is both a program and Big Ten record. The program record was a 21-year old record and the Big Ten record had stood since 2003 (Rachelle Boone, Indiana in 7.21). Young's 7.19 is ranked No. 10 in the NCAA this season. The Chicago, Ill., native also posted a winning 200m time of 23.53, which is the No. 1 Big Ten time this season. Young is the leader of the Gophers' 60m group that is ranked No. 1 in the Big Ten on the USTFCCCA 60m 'Event Squad' Rankings and is No. 5 in the nation as of Feb. 15. Young has now been honored four times during her career in the Twin Cities. She was honored once before in the 2021 indoor season.

Gopher Rankings
University of Minnesota track and field was ranked No. 27 in the national USTFCCCA rankings that came out this past week. The team is also ranked No. 4 in the Big Ten rankings and No. 4 in the Midwest rankings. Individually the Maroon and Gold have seven top 30 marks in the NCAA this season and have six different marks that are inside the Big Ten's top three so far this season.

Most notably, the Gophers have three No. 1 Big Ten marks this season with Amira Young (60m, 200m) and Shelby Frank (Weight Throw) both atop their respective events as of Feb. 9.
