MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota track and field program capped off the indoor regular season on Friday at the Snowshoe Open at the U of MN Field House. Shelby Frank highlighted the meet with a top-five NCAA mark in the weight throw while 17 events ended with unattached Gophers as the victors.

Frank's 23.97m (78-7 3/4) came on her final attempt of the afternoon while her remaining three attempts all went beyond 22-meters. The Gopher now sits at No. 4 in the NCAA in the weight throw as the regular season comes to a close. The mark improves Frank's lifetime best by nearly a full meter and inches her closer to the school record held by NCAA champion Kaitlyn Long, who's 24.37m (79-11 1/2) came in 2018.

Another big-time Gopher performance came in the form of Nyalaam Jok in the women's high jump. The outdoor All-American cleared 1.84m (6-0 1/2) to win the event with her performance marking the third time this season she has gone above 1.80m. Jok, who holds the school record in the event, will enter the Big Ten Indoor Championships with the No. 2 mark in the conference this season.

Of Minnesota's 17 unattached victories on Friday two of the highlights came from first-year Gopher Michael Buchanan. The Iowa Western CC transfer was the winner of both the 60m hurdles and the men's long jump. Both his 7.85 in the 60m hurdles and his 7.50m (24-7 1/4) in the long jump were both meet records. Buchanan's 7.50m long jump mark would rank him No. 7 in the Big Ten this indoor season.

Minnesota's unattached throwers were on fire on Friday afternoon. Starting with Kaleb Siekmeier in the weight throw. The grad student hurled a mark of 21.82m (71-7 1/4) to win the event and held off Cam Jones of Iowa State and teammates Jake Kubiatowicz (21.05m | 69-0 3/4), Isaiah Schafer (20.16m | 66-1 3/4) and Carter Hughes (20.03m | 65-8 3/4) all who went beyond 20 meters at the U of MN Field House. For Siekmeier the mark would rank him No. 21 in the NCAA this indoor season.

Continuing with throws, Minnesota's top shot put athletes were impressive with Schafer getting the victory over teammate Kyle Atkinson. Schafer, a first-year transfer from Davenport, earned the win with a toss of 19.02m (62-5) which would put him No. 8 on the Gophers' outdoor top 10 list, while Atkinson's 18.95m (62-2 1/4) put him on a good track to start the outdoor season strong as the runner-up in Minneapolis.
