About the 2023 Big Ten Indoor Championships

Minnesota will have competitors competing as early as 12 p.m. CT on Friday in the trials of the women's mile. The Gophers earliest competition on Saturday could be at 12:30 p.m. in the women's mile finals. The meet will conclude with the 4x400m relays at 3:55 and 4:10 p.m. CT with an awards presentation following at 4:25 p.m. CT. Live results are available via PT Timing, and live video is available online via BTN+ with championship coverage airing on the Big Ten Network at a later date.
Last Time Out: Snowshoe Open
The University of Minnesota track and field program capped off the indoor regular season on Friday at the Snowshoe Open at the U of MN Field House. Shelby Frank highlighted the meet with a top-five NCAA mark in the weight throw.
Frank's 23.97m (78-7 3/4) came on her final attempt of the afternoon while her remaining three attempts all went beyond 22-meters. The Gopher now sits at No. 4 in the NCAA in the weight throw as the regular season comes to a close. The mark improves Frank's lifetime best by nearly a full meter and inches her closer to the school record held by NCAA champion Kaitlyn Long, who's 24.37m (79-11 1/2) came in 2018. Another big-time Gopher performance came in the form of Nyalaam Jok in the women's high jump. The outdoor All-American cleared 1.84m (6-0 1/2) to win the event with her performance marking the third time this season she has gone above 1.80m. Jok, who holds the school record in the event, will enter the Big Ten Indoor Championships with the No. 2 mark in the conference this season.
The Golden Gophers Ranked in the Big Ten
Heading into the Big Ten Indoor Championships the Gophers have a total of 14 marks this season that are currently ranked inside the conference's top eight. 2022 B1G Indoor Championships Rewind
The Golden Gopher women's track & field team won its second straight Big Ten Indoor Championship last season at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The Golden Gophers scored a total of 102 points to secure the title, holding off the likes of Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan. The team win marked Minnesota's sixth indoor and ninth overall Big Ten championship in women's track & field.
In fitting fashion, the Golden Gophers 4x400m relay team also won back-to-back indoor titles in a time of 3:34.35. The team of Jayla Campbell, Janielle Josephs, Val Larson and Abigail Schaaffe officially stamped the Gophers team title for the second straight year. In total, Minnesota got scoring contributions from 17 different times and marks with Bethany Hasz scoring a team-high 18 points. After winning the 3000m for the second straight year on Friday, Hasz finished as the meet's runner-up in the 5000m in a time of 16:22.37 while sister Megan Hasz added a bronze medal performance to make a big move late for the team.
Up Next:
Minnesota will next see who qualifies for the NCAA Indoor Championships, set for March 10-11, in Albuquerque, N.M. The top 16 marks/times qualify in each event, with ties being broken by the second-best mark/time by that individual or relay team. For those who do not qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships, the outdoor season begins on March 3-4 when the team travels to Texas.
