Gopher Track to Compete at Raleigh Relays, Clyde Hart Classic

Minnesota will send athletes to both meets, one in Raleigh and the other in Waco.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Golden Gophers track and field team is set to compete at both the Raleigh Relays and the Clyde Hart Classic from March 23-25. The Raleigh Relays will be contested at the campus of North Carolina State while the Clyde Hart Classic will be at Baylor. 

About the 2023 Raleigh Relays
The Raleigh Relays run from Thursday until Saturday with the Maroon in Gold competing all three days. Minnesota's first event starts at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday in the men's 1500m and concludes on Saturday with the men's 800m. The meet will be streamed on Watch ESPN via ACCNX. Live results are provided by Flash Results and can be followed throughout the meet.

About the 2023 Clyde Hart Classic
Minnesota's trip the Waco will begin on Friday afternoon with the women's hammer throw and will conclude on Saturday with the men's 4x400m relay at 5:45 p.m. The meet is not streamed, but live results can be followed via DeltaTiming.com. 

Women:
Last Time Out: Gophers Finish 18th at NCAA Indoors

The University of Minnesota women's track team sent a small group down to Tampa, Fla., for the USF Bulls Invitational last week. The two-day meet saw the women earn a victory in the women's long jump in the form of Nyalaam Jok with a mark of 1.80m (5-10 3/4). The team also got a runner-up finish out of the 4x100m relay team in a time of 45.33. 

Men:
Last Time Out: Gopher School Records Fall in Texas

The Golden Gopher men's track and field team had a number of outstanding performances at the USF Bulls Invitational, earning six event victories. Austin Parsons (javelin), Kostas Zaltos (hammer), Jak Urlacher (pole vault), Jake Kubiatowciz (discus), Michael Buchanan (110m hurdles) and the 4x100m relay team all came home with a win in their events. 

Buchanan Honored by the Big Ten
University of Minnesota track and field junior Michael Buchanan was honored by the Big Ten as the Track Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career, the conference office announced Wednesday. 

Buchanan, who joined Minnesota from Iowa Western Community College, broke the school record in his debut at the Longhorn Invitational (March 4) in the 110m hurdles in a time of 13.84. The school record Buchanan broke was a 26-year-old school record that was held by Niles Deneen (13.95). His time of 13.84 is currently ranked No. 7 in the NCAA this season and is No. 2 in the Big Ten. Buchanan's performance was not limited to his time on the track as the Westmoreland, Jamaica, native also won the men's long jump at the Longhorn Invitational with a mark of 7.60m (24-11 1/4) which is ranked fifth in the NCAA and puts him at the No. 5 spot in school history. 

Up Next: 
Minnesota next competition will be back in the Twin Cities at the Hamline Invite on April 1. Minnesota will then will travel to Tucson, Ariz., for a spot at the Jim Click Invite at the University of Arizona on April 8.
