Golden Gophers Tally 16 NCAA 'B' Cuts on Day 3 of Minnesota Invite
MINNEAPOLIS – The Golden Gophers totaled 16 NCAA 'B' cuts and 20 personal bests on day three of the Minnesota Invite.
The Gophers opened the finals with a strong showing in both the men's and women's 100 fly. Freshman Jacob Johnson placed first with a 45.44 which is both a 'B' cut and personal best. Sophomore Claire Reinke placed second on the women's side with a 52.14 which is also a 'B' cut and personal best. Also on the women's side sophomore Morgan Thomas placed seventh at 52.93, a 'B' cut and personal best.
In the women's 400 IM sophomore Katie McCarthy placed second with a 'B' cut of 41:11.96. Junior Grace Drabot also posted a 'B' cut with a 4:15.00.
In the 200 free sophomore Mina Kaljevic posted a 'B' cut and personal best at 1:46.50, placing third.
Junior Ava Yablonski posted a 'B' cut and personal best in the 100 back with a 52.45 which placed third.
Senior Joe Rudd posted a 'B' cut of 52.90 during the men's 100 breast, placing sixth.
The men's 400 medley relay of Casey Stowe, Joe Rudd, Jacob Johnson, and Kaiser Neverman placed second with a 3:08.03.
For the day, the women's team saw 12 personal bests and 11 NCAA 'B' cuts. The men totaled five NCAA 'B' cuts and eight personal bests.
In the diving well, YuTong Wang posted his best score of the season taking first in the 3-meter with a 439.20. Drew Bennett placed second with a 382.35.
On the women's side Elna Widerstrom also scored a season best of 318.15 on the 1-meter placing first. Vivi Del Angel placed second with a 312.95, also a season best.
The Minnesota Invite wraps up tomorrow with the 1650 Free, 200 back , 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, 100 back, 400 free relay, and platform dive events. Swimming prelims start at 10 a.m. CT while diving prelims begin at approximately 1 p.m. CT. Finals are scheduled to start at 6 p.m. CT. Note that the 1650 free will take place at 3:45 p.m.
