The Gophers are back on the road on Friday and Saturday, facing Big Ten foes in Champaign, Ill.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Golden Gopher track & field program is back in action this week as the Maroon & Gold is set to compete against Big Ten Conference foes at the Fighting Illini Big Ten Relays in Champaign, Ill., on Friday and Saturday.

About the Fighting Illini Big Ten Relays
The Fighting Illini Big Ten Relays are set for Friday and Saturday at the Illini's new Demirjian Park Stadium in Champaign, Ill. Two full days of competition are scheduled to begin with women's hammer throw at 9 a.m. CT Friday and men's hammer throw at 9 a.m. CT Saturday. Running events are tentatively scheduled to begin with the men's 3,000m steeplechase at 1:50 p.m. CT Friday and the women's 10,000m at 12:30 p.m. CT Saturday. The meet schedule is subject to change following confirmation of entries.

Last Time Out
Kostas Zaltos won his third hammer throw title of the season while Kaleb Siekmeier won his second-straight discus title and finished as hammer throw runner-up to lead the Gopher men at the Husker B1G Invitational last weekend. On the women's side, Val Larson moved into eighth on Minnesota's all-time list with a career-best time of 54.33 seconds in the 400m while Abigail Schaaffe clocked a career-best 59.46 in the 400m hurdles to finish second in the event at the meet and improve her mark at 10th in Minnesota history. Amira Young finished as 100m runner-up for the Maroon & Gold as well.

Outdoor Records Falls
Allison Gerads set a new Minnesota program record in long jump at the Big Ten Florida Invitational with a career-best mark of 6.45m (21-02.00). Gerads improved on the previous Minnesota program record of 6.44m (21-01.50) set by Todea-Kay Willis in 2011; she also improved on her own previous outdoor long jump PR of 5.55m (18-02.50) by nearly an entire meter. Amira Young won the 200 meters at the Big Ten Florida Invitational with an unofficial Minnesota program record time, clocking a wind-aided (+4.1) time of 23.44 seconds in the 200 meters to tie Minnesota's oldest program record held by Jane Oas since 1976. Most recently, Bethany Hasz improved on her own Minnesota program record in the 5,000 meters, clocking an outdoor career-best time of 15:43.58 at the Big Ten Indiana Invite #2.

Indoor Records Fall
The Gopher men recorded all-time top-10 marks in six different events during the indoor season, including two program record performances from Alec Basten, who set new Minnesota records in the 3,000 meters (7:52.05) and 5,000 meters (13:32.98). On the women's side, the Gophers recorded all-time top-10 marks in 14 events and broke two program records as Amira Young bested her own Minnesota record in the 200 meters (23.16) and Bethany Hasz improved on her own Minnesota record in the 3,000 meters (8:59.37).

2021 NCAA Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships Rewind
Led by eight points from NCAA runner-up and First Team All-American Bethany Hasz in the 5,000 meters, the Gopher women scored nine points to tie for 24th in the nation at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Amira Young earned two All-America accolades at the national meet, finishing eighth for a First Team All-America nod in the 200 meters and placing 13th for Second Team All-America honors in the 60 meters. Allison Gerads made a statement in her NCAA debut, scoring 4,063 points for a 10th-place finish in the pentathlon -- just 25 points shy of her PR of 4,088 points set at the Big Ten Indoor Championships when she won the B1G title. Jayla CampbellAbigail SchaaffeVal Larson, and Janielle Josephs finished 11th in the 4x400-meter relay, clocking a time of 3:35.70, just shy of their season-best 3:35.51 used to win the Big Ten title. Making her first appearance at the national indoor meet and second NCAA appearance overall, Big Ten champion Tess Keyzers finished 13th in weight throw with a mark of 20.36m (66-09.75 ft.) and collected her second NCAA All-America award of her career as well.

2021 NCAA Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships Rewind
First Team All-Americans Alec Basten and Kaleb Siekmeier represented the Gopher men at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Basten ran a four-second PR and program record time of 7:52.05 to place fifth in the 3,000 meters just 24 hours after breaking the Minnesota program record in the 5,000 meters (13:32.98) to finish seventh in the event. Siekmeier recorded a career-best throw of 22.10m (72-06.25 ft.) on his sixth and final attempt in weight throw to improve his mark at third on Minnesota's all-time list and secure a seventh-place finish at the national meet. The duo combined to score eight points for the Maroon & Gold, landing Minnesota in a tie for 25th in the team standings. 

2021 B1G Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships Rewind
B1G Women's Indoor Coach of the Year Matt Bingle's Gophers won the women's program's fifth indoor and eighth overall B1G team title behind eight event crowns. The Minnesota women scored 138 points to cruise to the team title and defeat runner-up Michigan by 58 points. Amira Young won both the 60 meters and 200 meters while Abigail Schaaffe won the 600 meters and joined Jayla CampbellJanielle Josephs, and Val Larson to win the 4x400-meter relay. Allison Gerads (pentathlon), Bethany Hasz (3,000 meters), and Tess Keyzers (weight throw), and the distance medley relay team of Anastasia Korzenowski, Larson, Libby Halbmaier, and Abby Kohut-Jackson all finished as event champions as well. 

2021 B1G Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships Rewind
On the men's side, the Gophers finished fifth in the team standings with 70 points led by Owen Hoeft's Big Ten title in the mile and runner-up finishes from Ben Psicihulis (600 meters), Kaleb Siekmeier (weight throw), and the 4x400-meter relay team of Jade ReicksCollin SieffertGrant Fuller, and Psicihulis.

On the women's side, Erin DunningAbby Kohut-JacksonVal LarsonSophie Schmitz, and Amira Young are serving as captains while Alec BastenElliott DavisTeddy FridMike HeraufOwen Hoeft, and Eric Rousemiller lead the men's squad this season.
