Last Time on the Water
Minnesota picked up five race wins in each session of the two-day Big 12/Big Ten Double Duel in Kansas City, Kan., last weekend. The Gophers won five times Friday over the host Jayhawks on Wyandotte County Lake, including the first varsity eight boat that put on a show, winning the race with the fastest time of the day. Minnesota went on to win five more times Saturday, battling a head wind and strong wind gusts against Kansas State with the second varsity four boat cruising to an 18-second win over the Wildcats.
Â
Back in the National Spotlight
For the second time in four weeks this spring, the Minnesota rowing team received votes in the Pocock/CRCA Coaches Poll. The Gophers have fought through a challenging slate to begin the season with duels against West Coast Conference preseason favorite Gonzaga, No. 16 Tennessee, and No. 12 Ohio State.
Â
Earned a Weekly Honor
The Maroon and Gold's First Varsity Boat was recognized as the Big Ten Conference Boat of the Week March 19 after taking down Gonzaga by more than three seconds. It was the first weekly award for the Golden Gophers since April 27, 2021, when the First Varsity Eight earned the same weekly award.
