Minnesota Claims Race Win Saturday at Big Ten Invitational

Gophers add three second-place finishes to complete weekend trip
SARASOTA, Fla. - The Golden Gophers rowing team completed their weekend trip to Sarasota, Fla., with another race win from the first varsity eight boat, along with a trio of second-place results, during Saturday's final session of the 2024 Big Ten Invitational Regatta from Nathan Benderson Park.
The second varsity four crew used a strong sprint to the finish, closing the gap on race leader Michigan State only to come up just short by one second. In the second varsity eight race, Minnesota again pushed in the second half of the action to turn in a second-place finish.
It was a perfectly executed race plan from the Gophers' first varsity eight boat as it chipped away at Clemson's early lead with every stroke over the final 500 meters and pulled away to the tune of a nearly three-second victory.
Minnesota got another quality performance late in the session as its third varsity four crew continued to battle in a four-team race, featuring all Big Ten Conference opponents, and finished the 2,000-meter race in second.
