From Head Coach Alicea Strodel
"We've been able to put in a lot of great work at Medicine Lake this month," Strodel said. "As a whole, we've seen our team take a step forward this year, building upon each racing experience. I'm incredibly proud of our group and we'll see how it plays out on Sunday."

Last Time on the Water
The Golden Gophers rowing team last competed during a weekend trip to Sarasota, Fla., in mid-April for the 2024 Big Ten Invitational Regatta from Nathan Benderson Park. The first varsity eight boat picked up a pair of race wins, while the rest of the Minnesota boats added four second-place results during the three sessions. It was a loaded 18-team field, consisting of all eight programs from the Big Ten Conference as well as 10 schools from across the country that were invited to participate. All but five of the teams that raced were in the Pocock/CRCA Coaches Poll top 20 or receiving votes.

Back in the National Spotlight
For the seventh time in nine total weeks this spring, the Minnesota rowing team received votes in the Pocock/CRCA Coaches Poll. The Gophers have fought through a challenging slate this year with duels against West Coast Conference preseason favorite Gonzaga, No. 16 Tennessee, and No. 12 Ohio State, along with facing multiple nationally-ranked teams at last month's Big Ten Invitational.

Earned a Pair of Weekly Honors
The Maroon and Gold's First Varsity Boat was recognized as the Big Ten Conference Boat of the Week March 19 after taking down Gonzaga by more than three seconds. It was the fastest time of the day, 6:36.46, from the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center and sealed the dual win over the Bulldogs. The same boat became the league's first to win the weekly honor twice this season when it was named Boat of the Week April 23. That came after picking up a pair of race wins during the two-day Big Ten Invitational Regatta in Sarasota, Fla.

It was the first time in more than a decade, and just the sixth time in program history, that the Gophers have earned a B1G Boat of the Week honor twice in a single season. The last time it happened was during the 2012-13 campaign when Minnesota picked up the accolades twice in a three-week stretch between March 12-26.

Rowing Given Gladys Brooks Commitment to Academic Excellence Award
The Gophers rowing team was awarded the Gladys Brooks Commitment to Academic Excellence Award. Minnesota rowing has showcased academic excellence again in 2023-24 and thanks to a 3.48 grade point average over the fall, have maintained a 3.44 GPA or higher in each of the last eight semesters. The Gophers saw 13 student-athletes post a perfect GPA last fall with another six reaching at least a 3.90. Last year, the program had 14 named to the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar list and 28 earned a spot on the Academic All-Big Ten Team, while Annie Moen landed on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.

Gophers Announce 2023-24 Captains
Minnesota turned to a second-year captain and two new leaders for its trio of captains during the 2023-24 campaign. Isabella Bejaran (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) returns after serving as a team captain a season ago, while Madeline Lange (St. Paul, Minn.) and Tallulah Sweet (St. Paul, Minn.) join the leadership group for the Maroon and Gold.
